This painting is my own self portrait. The explanation of this painting is in depth. The bear claws in the background above the right shoulder signifies the maternal grandfather band, the Bear Band of the Otoe Nation, the wavy lines in the background above the left shoulder signify the paternal grandfather clan, A Red Streaking Into the Water clan of the Navajo Nation. The Coyote prints in the middle box in the background on the left arm signify the paternal grandmother clan, Coyote Pass clan of the Navajo Nation and the buffalo prints at the bottom near the left hand signify the maternal grandmother band, Buffalo Band of the Pawnee Nation. It is interesting how each symbol came to be in this painting. The Bear claw is near the highest shoulder because I think have the look of my grandfather Luther McGlaslin Sr., being on my right side I feel that I mother side is most prominate as I stand with my right side forward, the Red Streaking Into the Water is highest on my left side becuase I think that I learned my way of being, accepting and treating life from my grandfather, John Walters Sr. also being on my father side (left side). The Coyote Pass is my identifier in my Navajo and everyday life, again on my left side. The Buffalo side of me I feel is something I am about to reveal. ACRYLIC ON CANVAS 30"x 40" PRICE $ 1000.00. we are promoting a sale price to go toward the S.A.G.E. Foundation
